The Starfish Project is an original interactive concept of the San Juan Islands Sculpture Park. It is a large starfish shaped sand area where visitors and their children can construct their own sculptures or designs out of found objects (provided by SJISP) such as shells, driftwood, floats, and other materials found on beaches. It has proven very popular with families, many spending a half hour or more making elaborate, and beautiful structures. It is our belief at the Sculpture Park, that every effort should be made to create an environment of participation in the process of art beyond simple viewing. The Starfish Project is one of several experimental projects we are working on to make this happen. Please visit and try them.
